Meet The Queen of Curry
Mocha Guna is a Sri Lankan-American woman who was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, and has had the opportunity to live across the United States, from the North to the South, with extensive international travel. Her love of the culinary arts and flavors was developed at an early age, with her family heritage deeply rooted in South Asia. In addition to her South Asian roots, her upbringing in Seattle - home to one of the most well-known spice markets in America, and her experience of residing in different parts of the country, has brought her full circle to the creation of The Queen of Curry cuisine that is uniquely hers.
Chef Mocha G, a moniker coined by her closest friends, graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in Business Communication and a minor in Marketing. After graduating, she had her sights set on Corporate America but later found that her passions laid in the culinary world through many years of service in the Washington state restaurant industry.
Her story is one of perseverance, as her first foray into entrepreneurship was to start her own catering and personal chef company, Spyces Catering. This brand launch led to Spyces Catering moving east to Washington, D.C., where Chef Mocha G was honored to work for high-ranking government officials and their families, from diplomats to foreign ambassadors. This level of exposure opened doors and invitations to cater events in major cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York City.
In true form, for a woman from the west coast, another leap of faith was on the horizon - moving back closer to home, and this time it would be Los Angeles. This opportunity allowed Mocha G to merge her love for the music and entertainment industry with her given talent of culinary excellence. Her building legacy with Spyces Catering received a positive reputation around the country and allowed her to immediately create a buzz and work with a variety of industries in Hollywood, Downtown L.A., and Beverly Hills. This range of industry engagement was with top-performing clients in entertainment, Fortune 100 + 500 companies, and real estate. To note, one of her first high-profile clients was Patti LaBelle.
Chef Mocha G is an innovator in every sense of the word. While working with her Los Angeles client base, she found that there was another need, to help organize her clients’ lives outside of the kitchen. As the needs of her current clientele grew, so did her passion to create an all-inclusive business that addressed those unique needs. In 2013, after years of planning, brainstorming, and conducting focus groups, Savvy Services was launched. Savvy Services is a full-service lifestyle management company, which includes part-time concierges and special event staff. Savvy Services (SS) includes not only chef duties but also professional and personal organization and a complete range of property management. Whether by creating a fantastic meal to warm bellies, or organizing a living room to warm spirits, Mocha G realizes her passion when her clients’ needs are satisfied.
Chef Mocha G’s desire to help others and deliver soul-quenching meals made with heart inspired her to increase her range of service during our most recent and unprecedented COVID – 19 pandemic. She proceeded to make some adjustments, rebrand, and take the reins as the primary chef of her newest venture, The Queen of Curry. Clients can enjoy the flavorful dishes that The Queen Of Curry offers along with the convenience of delivery right to their doorstep. From the very beginning, Chef Mocha G has always had her sights set on providing valued customer clientele with signature meals and being of service. The Queen of Curry’s signature meals are inclusive of signature garlic noodles, crab wontons and Chicken Curry salad AKA: CCS. There are, of course, a host of other items made to order as everything is curated with the utmost care, love, and fresh ingredients.
Chef Mocha G is also actively engaged in the community by gathering and donating clothing and other necessities to a local Los Angeles women’s shelter. She is beyond humbled and grateful for the opportunity to welcome you into The Queen of Curry family.
